Bluegill Bay ParkGoogle Map  This 68 acre park located along the Wisconsin river is one of the best birding sites in the Wausau area and offers access to water, forest, and marsh habitat.

Rookery View ParkGoogle Map – Located on Lake Wausau just off of Rib Mountain Drive, Rookery View Park is near an island that is home to a great-blue heron rookery.

George W. Mead & McMillan Marsh Wildlife AreaGoogle Map – By far the best bird watching locations in Marathon County and one of the best in the state. The diversity of habitat and the size of the property makes the Mead Wildlife Area a prime spot to view a diverse population of birds.

Nine Mile County Forest Recreation AreaGoogle Map – 4,900 acres of mixed uplands, marshes, and —- located just southwest of Wausau in the Town of Rib Mountain and Mosinee.

DC Everest County ParkGoogle Map – A 12 acre park overlooking Lake Wausau.    Everest Park is located at the south end of 3rd Avenue within the city of Wausau. The park is situated along the west side of the Wisconsin River where it enters Lake Wausau and offers a great view of the lake and a place to see a variety of migratory waterfowl and resident birds.  Additional Information.

Bitzke Birdwalk, Map – This area was designated as a Waterfowl Refuge in 1985 by the Department of Natural Resources. There are five major earthen dams providing open water for a host of various songbirds, waterfowl, deer, turkey and beavers. The trail system is approximately 2.0 miles and will take you along the waterfowl flowages. There are six interpretive displays along the trail and an observation tower to give you a full overall view of the refuge. The trails are open year round and the public is required to stay on the marked trail from September 1 to November 15, due to the refuge status.

Buena Vista Grasslandsmap  – Buena Vista Wildlife Area is a 12,700-acre property located in southwestern Portage County and was designated an important bird area by the DNR.
